Your iPod shuffle has a built-in rechargeable lithium polymer battery. When fully charged, this battery will give you up to twelve hours of continuous playback.
Charge your iPod shuffle by placing it in the USB dock and connecting the dock to a computer. Keep the computer switched on and not set at standby or sleep mode (although some Macs can charge an iPod shuffle even in sleep mode).
It takes about four hours to full charge the iPod shuffle battery. After about two hours, the battery is approximately 80% charged.
The top status light of your iPod shuffle is orange when your battery is charging. The light becomes green when the battery is fully charged. If the light is not on, try using another USB 2.0 port.
You can download content from your iTunes library to your iPod shuffle when the battery is charging.
If the top status light flashes red continuously, it’s time to recharge your iPod shuffle battery.
You can charge your iPod shuffle using an iPod USB Power Adaptor that you plug into an electric socket. To buy an adaptor, see http://store.apple.com/uk.
